Pest Control Cardiff

So today I'm going to talk about rats on properties which we do a lot with so a typical example for rats would be a telephone call for Pest Control Cardiff where someone who's had maybe a rat problem for a couple of years in their property, could be a semi terraced house and I'm called out to try and solve the problem that they've had for years.

They've called other companies out they'd had various attempts to get rid of the rats and I ask a question have you looked at the drainage systems sometimes they'll say yes we've had a company out and they've looked at them and they found nothing so what I tend to say is ok, but I'm going to come out and take a look at the drainage as part of our investigation work, including checking the Attic where the problem is where they usually hearing it or in cavity walls going down pipes, in the kitchen bathroom depending on the levels of how long and how bad the problem is,

Now when I'm going out to the property the first site visit, what I call a site visit first time on your property I can be there sometimes two hours three hours I don't have a time limit to how long I am there. Now the instinct in the first place would be to go in the loft/attic and see what the problem is but that's usually where they are now and they will be nesting and then coming back down the cavities and back into the sewers, like I say sometimes there could be a broken drain pipe in the sewers. They can be coming through a hole and into your property.

One job done recently for Cardiff pest control, the rats had gone underneath the foundation of their extension and up through the cavities but when you tend to look at the drainage systems a lot of time we are finding holes breakages in the drain systems if we're doing what we call a CCTV camera rat inspection survey we are looking for holes and places where rats will get through and they exploit the cavities dig through the soil through concrete parts any gaps they can find they'll get the easiest access and then head up towards the Attic or sometimes flat roofs extensions they'll go into and along, most times we find it is drainage hence today's chat around the drains and rat problems.

Rat Control using CCTV Cameras

So a lot of the time with rat problems and you're getting repeating rat problems we're going to have a problem with the drainage systems so that's what we're looking at and time and  time again with finding holes breaks you know collapsed drain pipes and things like that where the rats then will come out the main sewers up to your house part and then exit the sewers and then up into the attic via all the flat roofs said earlier on, via cavities in the walls and then yes sometimes it can come out in the kitchens and they will sort of chew out places so therefore we are trying to solve these, which I called long-term solutions to people's rat Problems.

From our side we will check see and then wait at the point where we can find where there's issues and problems then we can further help the customer or sign post them a bit like when you go to your doctors you know you can give your doctors or something and if a bit more than beyond that what a doctor can do then will signpost you to that long-term solution be it a drain company or other.

There are systems out there which people put in which are called rat flaps which are like a cat flap, you know IT allows them in one way but not the other these can help in some situations to stop rats coming from the main system and then back up and into the into the sewer, your sewer system or drainage systems up to your house and then exploit holes, even chewing through the back end of toilets where the connectors are.

These are all things that we look at so if that is something that you're getting you know and you want to have a chat just contact us through here or phone were here to help.

Throughout the winter months pest control issues are Rats, Mice, Cluster Flies, Moths Cockroaches and sometimes the fleas occur and then as the winter gives way to spring and summer we will start to get the summer insects these can be Pet Fleas, Wasp nests, Ants, Wasps, general biting insects including bed bugs, alot of people will call us when they have come back off summer holidays and their property is full of fleas, due to pets getting fleas and then when there is no one in the property the fleas are starving and become really active when people come back into the property including pets. Last year Pest Control Cardiff had lots of people getting stung by wasps so be very careful if you are trying to do it yourself. We cover all of Cardiff and surrounding areas.

How Rats Use the Sewer System to Get About

Rats, when they infest your home they will not only eat your food but also transmit diseases. They are a health hazard. Unfortunately, even pest control professionals are faced with the dilemma of dealing with these rodents as they have found a new way of getting about using the sewer system.

Ridiculous as it may sound, rats are capable of using the sewer system to get into your home making it difficult to control them. How is this possible?Rats gain access to the sewer through outlets, manholes, broken pipes as well as drains that are near nest sites.

Well, sewers have been found to supply everything rats need for survival. From protection to warmth, food and water, the sewer system offers a conducive atmosphere for rats to thrive. They particularly do less foraging above ground during winter spending more time in the sewer, occasionally finding breaks within faulty joints of drain pipes.

They are able to live for a long time within the sewer by feeding on trapped or floating food scraps as well as faecal material on the sides of the pipes. In some instances, they will also feed on cockroaches found within the sewer.

How Rats use the Sewer to Get About

Rats use the sewer system to get about through several ways. They could burrow through the ground coming up under sidewalks or yards before entering your home. They may also follow lateral lines into a building before swimming through the floor drains. Rats are known to swim through way through traps inside toilets to enter building. In fact, in cases where a building is being demolished or constructed rats are able to migrate to the construction area if the sewer lines stay open.

Although tiny, rats are able to swim making it possible for them to survive in the sewer for long. What’s more? They can also dive and swim under water for at least 30 seconds. Their small size is also another feature that makes them adapt well in the sewer system by fitting into tiny spaces with ease given that their ribs are able to collapse when squeezed. Thus, they are not only able to get through tiny openings but also manoeuvre through toilet pipes that are usually narrow.

The other feature that makes it possible for rats to get about the sewer is the sharp claws that enable rats to climb over all manner of surfaces with ease. This coupled with the fact that they are incredibly flexible makes it possible for them to get through the sewer system into buildings and travel across different spaces and distancesAs such, rats continue to be a huge problem because it is difficult to completely control their movement especially in those areas that you cannot see such as the sewer system.

Ultimately, pest control specialists can work with property owners to control the rat problems by investigation work and look to solve the long term solutions in doing so.
